melling oil pump spring color question

So I just replaced my oil pump (see this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...e-melling.html)

Noticed that the new pump has a purple relief spring and the old one had a yellow. Anyone know if theres a difference between melling relief springs?

Both pumps were ordered as standard volume standard pressure (new M55 and 10553)

Thanks.

Re: melling oil pump spring color question

I *thought* the yellow one is the high pressure spring. I know I upgraded mine to make it a high pressure pump...
It doesn't show any color in this pic;

But that's the high pressure spring.

Re: melling oil pump spring color question

Hey 88305tpiT/A, just my two cents worth - I'm also running the Melling M55
slightly modified mind you. I swapped the "stock" spring that came with the pump out and replaced it with the "white stripe" spring. This spring is sometimes called the " Z28 " spring. I paid 4 bucks at the GM dealer for it.
It boosts the pumps output pressure to approx. 70 psi while your pump
volume remains "stock" which is what you really want out of your pump.
Hope I could help.
