problem with egr.
problem with egr.
i recently put edelbrock high flow runners and manifold on my 1988 trans am. it is running like garbage now and ive tried everything else. my last idea is that the vacuum created in the manifold now because it is greater, is causing the egr valve to shoot in too much exhaust gas. now i really need help here im at the end of my rope with this. if thats the problem how can i fix it
Re: problem with egr.
if it ran good before, you most likely need to look at the work you did to it. Perhaps a vacuum leak made during installation? A vacuum hose off perhaps? CHeck the fuel pressure regulator, always a good idea. What makes you think it is EGR? EGR generally doesnt receive manifold vacuum, I think i will check all data real quick.
----------
alldata refers to it as ported manifold vacuum (ported vac) and there is a solenoid inline. If the car is running like crap, barring a stuck open valve, it would most likely not have anything to do with the egr. As an inoperable, stuck closed egr isnt a problem. Look for vacuum leak, or similar problem. Do you know anyone with access to a scantool?

Nothing is loose, no vacuum leaks, everything is back the way it was before. I am also getting a new IAC housing for my throttle body. It was bypassed because the mechanic i originally took it to dropped it.
Re: problem with egr.
IAC was bypassed? I think its possible that could be a portion of your problem. also, put a vacuum gauge on it. Record base vacuum and needle action, and then give it some gas and record needle movement. THen look online for vacuum diagnosis charts, they are fairly common. A lot can still be told be a vacuum test, people just dont do it.
