NO Spark 305 TPI
NO Spark 305 TPI
I swapped the engine on 88 Trans AM 305 TPI, replaced the dist, the other was rusty. I get no spark when I crank the engine. The power is going to the coil, the coil works fine in another vehicle.
I saw some post about the IAT connector, people thought was hooked up wrong, but It looks like the ECM connects to the coil and the IAT on a dual connector.

Re: NO Spark 305 TPI
I had that problem with my car once, check the ignition module in the distributor, likely what your problem is.
Re: NO Spark 305 TPI
I had this checked at the autoparts. It is ok. I tried to read for codes, but the system would not go into the diagnosis mode when I jumpered the A - B terminals, but the cooling ari fan did turn on. The check Engine light does not come on, the ignition fuse is powered.

OK,WHAT VEHICLE IS THIS 88 TPI MOTOR GOING INTO?
Re: NO Spark 305 TPI
The problem is I did not properly label all the wires when I removed them. Stupid. There is one conncetor that is the same for the Coil to Distributor connection and the inlet plenum IAT temperature sensor. The connector for the IAT comes out of the wire loom right next to the dist, so I hooked it up to the dist, assuming it was a signal to the ECM. Wrong. Then the only place I had to connect the wire from the coil, that fit (although not very logical) was the Inlet Air Temp (IAT) sensor in the TPI plenum. Connect the wires right and vola it starts and runs fine. Why GM didn't make these two connnectors unique is beyond me, I don't see any others that I could have screwed up, they almost have it idiot proof.
