Car randomly dieing while moving

Just got back from the military, and the car has not been touched for about five months besides my dad doing some minor work like shocks, springs, brakes, trans tune up, and a fuel filter. I was coming back from my unit about sixty miles away, on the parkway. I was going about 70 MPH, and the check engine light came on and just the car died on me. (Needless to say I was scared shitless, it had to die on a turn; no power steering or brakes!) Now I changed the oil, and it seems to be running better. But it will still randomly die, and when it dies, like me turning the key off. However after waiting a while it will start up. When it first died, all the gauges were fine, tempature, fourteen volts, has gas, and the oil pressure was good. The only thing I noticed now is when I put the car in reverse, it stutters and sound like its going to die.

Please help! I deliver pizza and need my car back!

Thanks in advance,
PFC Briffa.

Update:
I looked around on the forums, and decided to check the fuse box. I discovered that the fuse labeled " ACR " was blown. Now it seems to run fine, but when I reverse the engine starts to stutter. Any Ideas? What does the fuse " ACR " stand for?

Typically that refers to accessories, which is unrelated to your problem. You're certain it won't die randomly now? That would have sounded like an intermittent short in a critical system, so let us know if it happens more.

As for the stuttering problem, I don't know off the top of my head. Do you not get the same stutter when you put it in drive? This should represent the same load on the motor, so a different result points to something else as the culprit.

Try changing your fuel filter. If it is partially clogged, it will run for a while until it starts to starve, and then will die.

The car seems to run fine in drive, it only will die in Reverse. Sutters, check engine light illuminates, and then it dies. I'm so lost... lol

Re: Car randomly dieing while moving

Wow I have the exact same problem. It happens usually when I have the ac on but not always. My car has also died out sometimes when I throw it into reverse. But this is not a everyday thing and I do have error code 32 that pops up. So to recap, it happens to me the most is when the a/c is on, I have been driving a while (at least 30 miles), and sometimes in reverse. So when you find out what it is let me know cause it really sucks when it dies. (especially on the freeway)

Re: Car randomly dieing while moving

Not sure about the reverse part....but back in April my car would do the exact same thing, it would do one of two things.... 1) Die while moving at random, or 2) start to chug/engine light come on and then die.....

Turned out to be a bad wire going to my coil, after it was fixed...no more of that...
