New Engine

Ok now that im in the market of buying a new/rebuilt engine for my car i cant seem to find a good place to get a new engine or rebuild one. Tried my local GM parts dealer but he told me crate engines for my car are not available no more, and also tried couple of shops but they charge me 3500 +, and with me being in california is kind of tough to find a "smog" legal crate engine around here or find a good place to rebuild one, HELP GUYS!

What are you trying to achieve? Your info says you have a L98, is that true now, or is it what you want to get?

Re: New Engine

I've never ordered from them, but I know http://blueprintengines.com/ carry roller blocks and their prices seem reasonable.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: New Engine

If it's my "fun car" I rarely just replace- I almost always upgrade. I've often thought that the 330HP Vortec HO motor would be a nice upgrade from the original L98. You'd need a different lower intake (Scoggin Dickey lower TPI intake) and have the chip tuned to match the combo, but it should belt out power like the original L98 never could.

Or just get a replacement short block (again, a Vortec 350 replacement short block would be a good choice for cheap- it's almost the same as your original L98) but then top it with some nice aftermarket heads (or your original L98 heads if they're still usable and money is tight) plus a mild cam of your choice (or slide you stock cam back in it for cheap).

Just a few ideas on the relatively inexpensive side.

Re: New Engine

Thanks for the info, im willing to spend 3000 to 3500 on getting my car going again, but dont know where exactly to find this stuff, most of the gm dealers/mechanics areound here dont want to rebuild an engine just put in a crate engine but those engines are not available in my area, would you guys have any links?

My brother bought this engine http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...54107251287.57 back in 2004. He put it in his '93 C1500 pickup with LO5, but I told him to spec it like an L98. When he put in the order on-line, they called him to verify what he was asking, and they sent exactly what he wanted. He hasn't had any trouble with it in the 3 years it's been in. The engine won't come with tin or details like the rear main seal holder, that stuff comes off your engine.
