Installing a Thumpr cam from Comp Cams

I thinking about installing a Thumpr cam from Comp Cams in my 89 T/A - 305 HO and wondering if anyone can shed some light (what extra is needed or is it something that can be installed in a small block (305) without changing anything else??
Thanks

Too much duration and not enough LSA to be computer friendly. Too much lift for stock heads.

Not a good idea.

Wouldn't you rather have more power than more sound? Mufflers can get you nicer sound, the cam should be picked based on power!
The compxe258hr is a solid performer in the 305 TPI engine. Tried and true, a good replacement for your peanut cam.

Agree, if you want a good sound, exhaust is a much better way to do it, hard to beat the sound of a flowmaster

You do realize that they purposely designed the cam to not idle well to get that sound, right? The sound is arguably the only redeeming feature of that cam. It's not meant to perform well. It's meant to sound the way it does. That's its only purpose. A poor idle just means the engine can barely sustain its own momentum at low RPMs. ie, you dont have much low RPM power. Unfortuantely, the way that cam is designed, you dont have all that much high RPM power either.

You'd be better off getting a cam that's actually meant to work well or a cam that's actually meant to give you tons of power, instead of sacrificing both for sound.

If you want a showcar, buy that cam and do what you need to make it work (heads, valvetrain, tuning), if you want a cam that's actually designed to work well, following Sonix' advice isnt a bad idea.
