Remove timing cover w/ 1 piece oil pan gasket, without ripping or having to replace?

Hi guys, I have a 2 piece rear main seal SBC with a new 1 piece oil pan gasket that I just installed. I am wondering if when I take the timing cover off in the future, will I be able to get the cover, off, and back on, without damaging the 1 piece oil pan gasket, where it meets w/ the cover? I seem to remember being able to get a timing cover off with a 1 piece oil pan gasket, but not being able to get the cover back on over it, and I had to cut out the U piece and silicone a replacement part in there. It didn't leak, but it ruined the oil pan gasket being 1 piece.

Any input is appreciated

Thanks

Steve

take the first 3 bolts out of the oil pan closest to the timing cover

oh ya drain the oil so it does not bend the pan

loosen all the remaining oil pan bolts untill you can fit the timing cover to the block

tighten the timing chain cover and put the first two bolts closest to the timing cover in and make sure the lip of the oil pan gasket seats properly

put all the rest of oil pan bolts in and tighten them down

Hmm, that seems to make more sense than the yank-and-curse, then cut, method I used before.

Thanks!
