Plug Wires All Messed Up

In the process of allowing a neighbor to help me with a plug/wire changeout the plug wires are now all mixed up as to where they go on the distributor. Is there a quick way to determine the #1 plug location on the distributor cap? I can get it from there I think...just have a mess right now.

Remove distributor cap. Turn engine until timing mark lines up with timing tab. If the rotor is pointing mostly to the front, that's #1 (most likely). If it's pointing towards the back, that's #6 (most likely).

Re: Plug Wires All Messed Up

57's way sounds easiest to me, the way I remember is that on a large cap hei #1 is the second one clockwise from the 12volt/tach connection on the cap..
