I have an 89 IROC and it stalls when it idles and hesitates when you accelerate sometimes. Would a bad EGR be the cause of this? Can you clean them out or do you have to replace it? I already put plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, maf sensor, iac sensor, and injectors on it.

have u checked the rotor button and check the coil and check for vaccum leaks. the egr valve u can check it by placing ur finger on the diaphram and see if it is opening and closing

 

it sorta sounds like a vacuum leak but i replaced some of the cracked hoses but still didnt do anything, the dist is fine, spark is fine. EGR is the only thing i can think of, unless its a clogged cat.

 

You can take the egr off and clean it with some carb cleaner. You can also check the egr solenoid make sure it is working. I would try using some seafoam I would use it through the brake booster line and pvc line. Also have you check the tps?

 

I couldnt get the damn egr off, i dont know if it is the problem now though cos it runs the same with it off and the vac line plugged. No check engine light either, i think it might be a bad ecm maybe? Im gonna check the tps today.

 

Could a pvc valve cause rough idle/hesitation? I checked the tps, i think its fine but im gonna pull one from a boneyard i think to make sure. I cleaned out the throttle body also and the problem still remains...

Throttle body cleaner from oreilly's is like 5 bucks, it worked for my car. I had a similar issue that I would have to keep my foot in it to keep it running and it wouldn't idle for the life of me.

 

Get the codes! Im having a same problem like this and just started throwing parts at it (huge list lol) got the codes and now i know where to go to next! Its easy and only takes a paperclip and a few minutes. Search how to do it in the threads.

 

Also a clogged cat would make it seem like theres a loss of power and its not shifting at all. You could floor it and barely get up to speed! My cat was clogged and i had to gut the thing. This doesnt sound like this is your problem..
