Loose Gas pedal

Tried searching but found little help

My gas pedal seems to sit a little lower than it used to and its not as responsive as it once was, is there a way to tighten it up or something? what can be done to fix that or make it more responsive?

Either the cable is stretching or the housing is collapsing. A new cable is the best way to avoid potentially dangerous problems either might cause.
