Hi I am new here and have a problem I have a 1988 IROC TPI 305 vin code F which the service enigine light came on and when I turned the engine off will not restart , the light was a burn off / rich thing (Code 36) now the car is not getting fuel , will run if you spray fuel in the TPI. I was told that my oil pressure guage not working could be the problem. The guage stoped reading pressure two years ago , I have replaced the guage no effect. Couldn't find the sensor unit to replace it . As far as I can tell the fuel pump is not priming . Would a pump just die like that I mean I just switched the engine off and tryed to start it right back and nothing. Any ideas already tryed replacing the pump relay and found two wires missing insulation near the plug. fixed both . Any Help would be appreceated....thanks

I've never heard that before but I really doubt it.

Get a fuel pressure gauge (the kind with a schrader-valve) and check the fuel pressure at the fuel rails. This will confirm if you are getting fuel.
I would do this first before anything else.

Hope this helps!

your fuel pump could have died or the filter stopped up. If you dont hear the fuel pump sometimes when they go bad you can beat on the bottom of the tank and they will run for a little bit.I would start at he fuel rail and check for pressure if u dont have pressure check at the fuel filter. Also check your fuse and ur fuel pump relay.

If the oil pressure gage sender is bad, your fuel pump won't run because the sender is also a switch for the fuel pump.

Thanks five7kid
That's what I had heard but the sender has been bad a long time why would it shut the pump down now ? I will replace it and see But I heard that there are two units one is for the guage and one is for the ECM. Have you heard of that ? One is down by the oil filter and the other is at the back of engine near the dist.

The gage part can quit and the switch part continue to work. Eventually, both seem to fail.

It's only a backup if the fuel pump relay fails. The sender itself won't make the pump not run.
