350/305 Crankshaft compatability ?
Hello All:
I am rebuilding a stock 305 (1987)TBI engine.The crankshaft needs work.I also have a (1996) L31 350 crank and rods in great shape.
My Question :
Can I use the good 350 crank and rods in my 305 block if I use the vibration damper that comes off the 305 crankshaft.
Will the rotating assembly be balanced ? I plan to go back with standard size pistons.
Thanks for your help.

The balance weights on the crank will be different so you'll need to get the rotating assembly balanced. The 350's crank will be balanced for the larger, heavier 350 pistons. They're both neutrally balanced but the reciprocating weight is different.
Any engine where you mix and match parts needs to be balanced. Even using aftermarket pistons and rods will need balancing because they don't weigh the same.
