Re: hypertech does it work???

everything i hear about them is 50/50- half say theyare great, half say they suck. i found one new in the box for my 87 GTA for 10.00 so i gave it a try. (wasn't willing to spend 200.00 to see if it worked). it did eliminate my rev limiter, so i was able to shift at 6300-6500 instead of 56-5800. this allowed me to chirp 3rd gear when wound out. it also required the use of premium fuel. overall it was worth 10.00 to play with, for anything more than that i would get a catback exhaust system instead.

Re: hypertech does it work???

Ron, I dont know what is up with your car, but the rev limiter in the stock TPI chip is set to 10,000 rpms.

I've analysed a stock chip and a Hypertech chip, and the only thing Hypertech does is add a few degrees more timing, add a little more fuel at wide open throttle, and turn the fans on sooner. They do nothing to the idle nor the cruising parameters. Same with most of the other aftermarket off-the-shelf chips.

If you want a new chip and cant do your own, talk to Ed Wright at http://www.fastchip.com/

Re: hypertech does it work???

thanks kevin, i should have said my car would start losing power at 56-5800 rpm, with the hypertech the car was still pulling strong at 63-6500. i would not recommend the hypertech for such a small difference.
