pistons
pistons
im rebuilding my 350 and i have a question about pistons. i have looked at all sorts of brands for pistons and was wondering i was looking to run around 10-10.5:1 compression n/a this year and possibly put nitrous or another power adder in the future i really dont want to have to tear the whole motor down again at that point what is a good forged piston that is reasonably priced that could handle a power adder in the future? Thanks

Re: pistons
Those Mahle Motorsports pistons are about as good as youll get as far as price and quality. The power pack pistons even come with rings. Also SRP or Sealed Power are reasonably priced as well.

americanmuscle3,
Keep in mind that if you do use a power adder you should lower your comp relative to the amount of nos/boost/psi that you will be using. Then it is definitely imperative to use forged pistons.
As for the brand of pistons, I have used a set of trw's and je pistons and they both did great. Now for the money trw or, like seth was saying, sealed power is also a great alternative.

Re: pistons
The reason they're cheaper is due to higher volume. TRW/Sealed power make pistons for the OEM, so they produce massive quantities. Also, everyone buys them in the aftermarket, which means they make a ton for those applications as well. That helps them keep them cheaper.
The brands that don't make as many, or make custom sizes are more expensive due to the extra tooling involved, and the price of putting a nice shiny name on it. TRW pistons don't come with a high performance sticker

Re: pistons
The 2618 allow pistons are what I look for when I'm building an engine I plan on spraying. The Keith Black budget forged pistons are 2618 alloy and a good value at $293.

Their premium series is a VERY nice 2618 piston also and is lighter with a smaller ring package. At $376, it would depend on your end purpose whether or not they'de be worth the difference.
