Cam and manifold questions

I am currently in the planning stages of building a new powerplant for my new to me 1982 z28. I need a little help in the cam and stall convertor department and after searching I have learned a lot but not enough. I am planning on .30 over (machine shop says that were my block needs to go) and a 3.750 crank from eagle to make a 383. I was going to use a RPM air gap manifold with a 274 grind or 270 grind COMP Cams Xtreme Energy cam with the hole valve train kit (timing set, springs, seals, retainers, and lifters). My question is one, will this setup work together since the rpm operating range is the same? Two, will I need a new stall for a th350? and finally, will a holley or edlebrock carb clear my stock hood with this manifold?

Oh, and what is the idle like on these cames. This car will see some street duty but not daily.

I hope the engine you're rebuilding is a 350.

What heads are you planning on running? The typical stock 350 head is far from performance-worthy.

The XE274 is an excellent cam. The RPM Air Gap will clear the hood fine with a Holley carb (please don't get an Edelbrock Performer carb) and a drop-base air cleaner.

You should go for at least 2500 stall. Is the TH350 already in the car, or are you planning on putting it in with the engine? Do you know about the torque arm mount?

The idle with that cam will be noticeable, but no particular problem driving on the street.

Re: Cam and manifold questions

Yes the engine is a 350. I am not sure on the heads yet I am thinking about trying to get a set of Vortec heads and port them. But, I don't know if could have a set of stock 350 heads worked on at a machine shop and have the valves reverse cut and get a good flowing head. I saw in one of the car mags (can't remember which one), they had the stock 882's ported and the valves done and were making like 380 hp (with a cam, headers and intake) which is plenty enough for me.

The TH350 does not yet exist in my garage. I am under the impression B&m makes a kit that has the TA mount for the TH350, am I incorrect? I am looking at having one built by one of the trans shops up here since the price of shipping a trans to Alaska would be extreme. Plus I have never rebuilt a auto trans and really don't want to install it and the motor only to find out I f'd it up. I am confident that I can build the motor since I have done it in the past (only 22re's though). Plus if I can remove and install engines out of a F-15 I should be able to handle the Camaro.
