Noise front of engine - belt driven

Car is a 1992 camaro RS 305 engine. The engine while idleing will make a rattle/scraping noise randomly. If I remove the serpentine belt the noise is gone. I removed the belt a few months ago and the smog pump pulley shaft had slack like bad bearings. I replaced the pump but the noise is still there. The alternator is about 2 years old (quality rebuilt). None of the belt driven accessories feel loose when I try to wobble the pulleys with the belt off. I need some suggestions before something locks down. Thanks.

Get yourself about a 3' piece of heater hose. Stick it in your ear! (I just LOVE telling people to do that!!!) and probe around with the other end and listen to each device until you find where the noise is coming from.

Also check the belt tensioner pulley if you haven't already. Those and the plain idlers that don't go to anything seem to fail first.

Yes it has A/C. Makes the same noise A/C on or off.

Re: Noise front of engine - belt driven

So.... which rotating thing did you find is making the noise?

Think that one might be the problem?
