I need a favor

could someone please post or send me a pic of the VATS module or know where it is in my car I cant seem to find it?

1990 3.1L RS
I have changed just about everything other then the vats module
and checkd every thing
my book says that the injectors need to be between 11-14OHMs mine are 16.8 OHMs also used a noid light to check the conectors the light flashes but not very brightly

it looks like someone added a ground wire to the start enable relay that is not factory.

car now turns over like no tomarrow but will not start
but if I splash a bit of gas down the front it will start but I have to feather the throttle like mad to keep it running.
I do not have the keys with the pellet in them whrere lost by last owner.

And or dose anyone know where I can get my ecm reprogramed to not need the VAts module signal.

Thank you all
Happy new year

The VATS disables the injectors and the starter. The SES and, or security light should be on.
You have injector signal, and starter turns so it's not the VATS.
If it was the VATS it would not run no matter how much fuel you splash into the TB.
Might be a fuel supply problem.

I wonder why someone would do that? Maybe it was to jump the relay because it was bad.

This part in the link might be the easiest/cheapest solution to your problem since you don't have the original key anymore. http://tpiparts.net/inc/sdetail/5186

There is a VATS tech article linked from the thirdgen.org homepage.

I missed this part in the thread.
DTC 46 is VATS fault because of the missing key pellets.
The VATS module is behind the A/C system where is difficult to get at. makes sense, wouldn't want to give a thief easy access.
Grounding a bad relay wouldn't make it work.
Grounding the relay would be done if:
VATS is not grounding the relay, or you want to bypassed that function of the VATS.
injector disable switch is turned off in ECM, or VATS signal to ECM is bypassed.

Actually, according to the factory manual, the module is located behind the instrument panel towards the driver's side, near the base of the steering column. Really doesn't matter though without the matching key. Either get the bypass module or send the chip to someone who can delete the VATS from the programming.

Re: I need a favor

As far as I know, 89 was the first year that f-bodies got VATS. The vettes were the first to get it starting in 86. Maybe your car was special ordered with it. It might've been an option in 88, but it came standard on all of them in 89. I know exactly where that module is you posted a pic of. It's the electronic cruise control module on mine, and it's pretty much right behind where they put the little "ERS" radio emblem on the dash. I think that illustration is a misprint becuase it seems like I remember looking at that same diagram once when I was trying to figure out where mine was. I took a look at it when I was replacing my heater core and it was the cruise module. I think I saw that diagram in my Chiltons manual, which doesn't surprise me. The location I posted came out of a GM shop manual.
