AMP Draw with Starter

What kind of Amperage would a starter on a 305 pull when cranking over the motor? Would it exceed 200AMPs?

I want to put in a switched fuse and need to know this to size it. 200AMP is common but might be low on the 305.

It may spike to over 250 when it first starts to crank but while constantly cranking it should only draw about 150 to 200 amps.

You can't and have no need to fuse the starter feed wire. You'll probably blow the fuse regularly.

I am going to fuse the battery. It is common practice for large stereo systems but you have to keep in mind the max AMP draw.

Re: AMP Draw with Starter

Fuse the stereo system not the starter. Run a separate power wire off the battery to the fuse then from the fuse to the stereo. If your stereo draws that many amps, you'll need some battery cable to feed it.
