my car died

89 firebird 2.8 MPFI was sitting for a few years and we got it running. had her out on the road the other night and it was going good. it was sluggish from stop, but ran good when it got up to speed. got up to speed after a stoplight, then it sputtered a little and died. haven't totally diagnosed the problem, but it's not getting a spark. so what do you guys think? my grandpa is pretty sure it's the coil., but i just wanted to get some more opinions

Re: my car died

I don't know v6's but, if their distributor is like mine, check the ignition module in the distributor.

If it fails, you will get no spark.

Hope this helps.

the v6 mpfi and v8 tpi engines share the same basic distributor aspects except for the obvious things like drive gear for the cam and the distributor cap.
I agree with formula_novice and check the ign. module.
Its located in the distributor under the rotor if you didn't already know that.

Re: my car died

and if that doesn't cure the ailment, then would it be the coil?
