89 L98 TPI A/T with an awful knock

89 GTA that sat for a couple of years not running. I just got it started and I'm getting a knock that is not consistent like I would think a rod knock would be. Its not coming from the top end, I used a stethoscope and its coming from the bottom end.

1.It had old gas.
2.Block and pan are good no holes.
3.TC cover is off and flywheel and TC run straight with no wobble.
4.Belt removed and no change.
5.Exhaust is tight.
6.RPMs at idle vary about 250.
7.No codes.
8.Oil is good.
9.All TC bolts are good.
10.Slight change in knock with increased RPM.
11.TC and flywheel are tight no play.

I'm going to remove the TC bolts and push it back and start the engine and see if the knock is still there today. Anyone want to take a stab at this knock?

It fired right up and runs good besides the knock.

Hard to say without hearing it. How's the oil pressure? Does it knock louder if you load the engine?

30-35 for oil pressure. Someone else on here had a video and it sounded just like his problem, He found the oil pump pickup tube had fell off and was banging against the crank, IIRC just after a rebuild. Under load it seems to be about the same, maybe alittle louder.

In his case, you would think there would be no oil pressure if the pickup tube fell off

Is that at a hot idle? Something else to try is retarding the timing a few degrees. If it gets quieter it's like a bad rod bearing.

Yes, its at hot idle. Rod bearing would constant rhythm knock? This knock has no rhythm to it.

I don't believe oil pressure has anything to do with this knock. What happens when a knock sensor goes bad? Do you get a code?
