Starter motor clicks over but engine doesn't

Hi,

I have an '83 TA with a 350 chev.

When I go to start it, the starter motor clicks over but the engine remains still. I've charged the battery and the fuel pump is working well, so I am thinking it could be the distributor / coil.

What's the best way to check if this is the case? (i have a multimeter).

Or if you think it's something else please let me know.

Thanks!

Re: Starter motor clicks over but engine doesn't

If the starter won't even spin the motor then the ignition system isn't involved yet. Usual cause is bad cables and connections (at the battery, starter or ground point for the negative cable). Enough juice can flow to engage the solenoid ("click") but not enough the feed the starter motor under the load of turning the engine (high current draw). Obviously, that's only the first thing to check, not the entire list of what could be wrong.

if the engine isnt cranking then your problem is either a bad starter or else your not gettin enough juice to it
