Ill be honest here... I was racing and powersliding around the other night in the camaro and I think somethin bad happened...

All of a sudden I started hearing this knocking noise... kinda like when the cars low on oil, but a KNOCK instead of a light tick. It got home fine, starts and idles fine... but what the hell?

Is this a serious problem? Pushrod,valve....whats goin on here? Can I do this myself, or how much would a shop charge?

 

Dude if it's a rod knocking that motor is done.

 

Is it still knocking?
You can grab an auto stethoscope and probe for the location of the knock while the engine is running.
I've heard intake manifold leaks sound like rod knocks before. It was on my work van, a Chevy 2500 5.7l

 

yeah if u spun a rod or main youll have to pull the engine and rebuild it, and turn the crank, possibly might even need a rebore. When does the knocking occur?? decelleration or accleration?
