If you decide to replace the 2.8, replace it with a 3.4 out of a fourth gen. Direct drop in (use the 3.4 injectors) and good for a lot more horsepower.

Why not rebuild the one you have? Especially if you have the know-how to assemble it yourself (I don't know if you do or not), its the cheaptest way for sure. That way, you only pay for machining and parts, no labor. Plus, you know exactly what it was built with.

Re: Buying NEW engine. looking 4 best deal??

I bought remanufactured 5.7 vortec for one of my trucks and had it in over a weekend. $1700 from Promar in NJ. they delivered to my home garage. I was pretty happy with it. They came back and picked up the core. I sold the truck to guy on ebay who flew in and drove it back to Vancouver, (from NJ). I would use them again.

I'd grab a used long block out of hte for sale section on TGO honestly... if you're looking for cheap, a "broken in" factory motor will take you a LONG way for your money!
