can't get car to start

I have an '87 camaro rs, and I can't get the starter to engage. It had a security system on it from GM. I removed it and respliced the yellow ignition wire coming from the ignition switch. At the switch the red wire is hot but when I turn the key to start it never sends the voltage to the yellow wire which goes to the neutral start switch then to the starter. Could the ignition switch be bad? How can I test it? Does anyone have a pinout for it?

Re: can't get car to start

my buddy went through this recently & we like you, spent some time... the pellets in the key can go IIRC there are 25 (or was it 12?) different pellets each with a different resistanc range matched to the security system. one site said to ohm the keys to see if the key is in specs; he tried new keys. another said the ignition lock wire wears, which you've already replaced. my buddy ended up going back to the locksmith and just by-passing the system because he doesn't really care or firgure anyone else does. his car starts fine now.

Re: can't get car to start

I got the car turning over. Turns out the ignition switch was bad. I still can't get anything out of the fuel pump. I tested the wires at the pump, there are three of them(black, grey, and pink). When I have the key on I am only getting 5.4 on the pink and nothing out of the pump. I measured nothing on the grey wire. Where do these wires go and does anyone have any suggestions. At the relay, I tested the dark green wire and it is measuring .06. This wire comes from the computer and is supposed to activate the relay and send power to the pump. The relay is not switching, I have bench tested the relay and it works fine. The orange wire at the relay is measuring 12, so its hot there, I jumpered from there to the tan/white wire that goes to the pump and I still get nothing. I am at a loss and could use some help.

Re: can't get car to start

I jumpered 12v to the ternimal on the ALDL that goes to the fuel pump(which is the grey wire at the pump) and the pump did nothing. I put a meter on the grey wire at the pump to verify that the 12v made it there, and it did. Does this mean I am correct in saying the pump is bad and therin lies my problem?
