Codes Not Clearing
Codes Not Clearing
I've been trying to clear codes 32,33 and 42 but they are still there. I disconnected the battery, didn't work. Took out the 10A ECM fuse. Didn't work. When I hook up the scanner, the same codes still come up. Is there more to this that I'm not doing right?
I've searched and read about starting 50 times, disconnecting pigtail fuses near coolant tank.
The car is a 1991 5.7 l TPI.
thanks for the help.

That must be one hell of a sound system. It also has some seriously big capacitors that hold enough power to keep the ECM memory alive.
If the big power feed to the amp is connected to the B+ stud on the fender (as it should be) you will see the voltage on the battery cable doesn't drop below 5V when the battery is disconnected.
Try this: Disconnect battery, turn ignition on, go get a beer. Drink beer, turn key off, connect battery.
Re: Codes Not Clearing
Thanks Supervisor42! I disconnected the negative and pulled out the ecm fuse, then turned the ignition on, the entire dash lit up as if it was going to start, the fuel pump kicked on but the car didn't actually start. That was enough to drain the rest of the power. I do have a seperate large capacitor in the back the size of a quart of milk which is just for the woofers.
My stereo has a show quality sound. Can't decide sometimes whether I was to listen to the music coming from the engine or the stereo system.
thanks again!

I'm assuming that the engine runs, right?
