tie rod end

I replaced the center link in my camaro but the tapers on the inner tie rod end are spinning freely, my chilton book says to set them to 15ft/lbs, but does not say how. does anyone know how to get them torqued down?

Re: tie rod end

Find a way to put some pressure on it, forcing the cone into the taper. If the grease fitting is in the way, carefully remove it, and put it back in when it it does tighten up.

Put a jack under it to put some pressure on it.

Re: tie rod end

I'm confused, the cone shaped part is spinning freely inside the tapered hole? Did you not tighten the nut all the way and install the cotter pin?

Re: tie rod end

Start the nut, then stick a pry bar between the center and end link. Put pressure on the pry bar (and thus the nut) until you can draw the 'cone-shaped" piece into place. Once it's there, of course, it won't spin and you can tighten to spec.
