I didn't know which section to put this on so here it is.

Will 255/60/R15 tires fit a 1994 Firebird Formula? I know on the rear they'll be fine but I'm concerned about rubbing on the front. I can get a deal on them, but if they don't fit... Thanks guys.

 

Not a 3rd gen F-body, but I owned a 94 Formula so I'll try to help you out anyway. Stock size was 245/50R16 on stock wheels. Stock 16" wheels (8" width). I don't beleive 94 Formulas ever came with 15" wheels- maybe base model Firebirds, but not Formulas which always had 16s, to the best of my knowlege.

I installed 255/50R16 tires which were one size up from stock and had VERY slight rubbing in parking lots at full lock. Nothing to write home about or be concerned about.

So, if you're putting 15" wheels on your Formula I can only assume they are aftermarket wheels. That means that backspacing and wheel width plays a critical role and there's no way to answer that question for sure without knowing something about the wheel's specs.

 

check with a local shop if you have aftermarket wheels. they will have to measure.

 

Thanks for the reply. I found another deal with more specs, I've provided a link, so if anyone with more knowledge could have a look and let me know if these tires would fit my 1994 Firebird. Unfortunately some neighborhood kids popped 3 of my tires (why they spared one I don't know) and I'm low on funds. Any help you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I'm fairly certain those won't fit.
14x6 in the front won't clear your brakes, and 15x8 with 3.5"BS isn't enough in the back.

Sonix: Thanks for the reply. I was realling hoping they would fit, I really can't afford to pay for new tires or rims. And third gens are my fav, but I only want one with a 350/5-speed combo and I haven't found a nice one yet, at least not for a good price! But back to the tire issue, if these don't work out would you know if 255/60/R15's work on the front?

edit: The tires are not on rims so I would have the luxury of getting the right ones to fit. I just need to know if they'll rub on the front or not.

 

255/60/R15's will rub on the front, somewhat. If you don't turn to full lock, (ie, drive in parking lots) they'd work ok. I wouldn't recommend it though, you're not gaining anything by running something that BIG up front, it'd look funny and make it hard to corner at low speeds.

350/5 speeds were never stock, so someone would have had to swap it in. That's why they're rare, no one wants to sell it after putting that work into it, unless something is wrong... Best to do that swap yourself

 

Yeah but I don't know how to do a 5-speed swap or a 350 swap so it's never really been feasible for me. And the only reason I'd go 255 on the front is because they're cheap (4 for $300), but if they'll rub then I'm not going to bother. I might however see if he'll sell me two of them to replace the weather cracked 275s I have in the rear right now. But either way I need my beauty up and running, having her sit while I source for tires has killed the battery--it won't recharge after boosting. I let her run, but as soon as I turn her off she's dead again!
