switch that would prevent car from starting...
this is kinda an odd question, but i remember hearing about it a while back. isnt there supposed to be a wire that you can put a switch on that would prevent the car from starting without the switch flipped? i am looking at this as a free security system type thing... so which wire if it is true?
----------
remember that this is a carb'd 350. i have very few wires in the whole car.

Still have the stock auto? If so, you might consider installing an in line toggle switch on the purple (from memory so check for yourself) wire that goes to the switch plate / gear switch, or whatever it's called, at the base of the gear selector.

the thing that i am unsure of is that i have a GM service manual for the 1987 model year (for my old camaro) and my current one is a 1985.
but yea, to my knowledge it is the stock auto, but i am not totally sure since everything else was swapped out on the car.
i thought i remember hearing the purple wire, but was unsure. thanks. any other input is welcome.

There are lots of wires you could do that on.

Look for the power wire (red/pink) that connects to the GM HEI distributor cap.
Splice in a SPST dash or under dash mounted (hidden) toggle switch capable of 10 amps or more. Use quality automotive accessory wiring capable of carrying the amp load. (about 10 amps) Be sure to mount the switch so you won't hit it while driving.
Replacing the lighter socket in the ash tray with a push button ignition power kill switch is one idea. Be sure the wiring is grommet protected where it passes thru the fire wall under the dash.
This switch will also aid in starting the engine when hot, with a lot of initial spark timing, such as used on a race motor.

you can wiring the fuel pump to not prime while the key is on. motor will try to turn over but never get the fuel it needs.

That would depend on where in the fuel pump circuit you put the switch, otherwise the oil pressure switch will end up powering the pump after it cranked long enough.
