oil passage / coolant passage .. do i need to plug this hole???

i just rebuilt my 305 tpi in my 1991 camaro z28 and there is a bolt hole on the driver side of the block above the freeze plug just infront of the oil filter / oil pressure sender ..

do i need to plug this hole (if so ..with what?) .. or is it for something that i dont have ..

Is it a blind hole or does it go into a gallery?

A blind hole would be for mechanical clutch linkage. If it goes into a gallery, it will need to be plugged. Probably a 1/4" pipe plug.

Re: oil passage / coolant passage .. do i need to plug this hole???

i dont know .. i just got the motor back in the car and its just above a freeze plug , and its about an inch or so deep ..

the machine shop didnt plug it .. i got some 1/4" plugs and they dont fit .. its a little smaller ..

i got a hydraulic clutch assembly ..

im going to fill it with coolant and oil tommorow .. so i guess i'll find out ..

its about 6" in front of the oil pressure sender ..

i tried poking a zip tie around in the hole but coudnt tell if it was a passage for anything .. would it be easy to tell ? ..

yes.

Pipe plugs are a tapered thread. If a pipe plug doesn't fit then it's not a pipe plug thread. Mechanical clutch linkage uses regular threaded bolts although I can't say if your block will be NC, NF or metric threads. I doubt it's a 1/8 pipe fitting.

Yes your car has a hydraulic clutch but that block casting is used on more than just f-bodies.

Above a freeze plug won't be a coolant gallery unless it's for a knock sensor but the knock sensor is usually on the other side of the block. Coolant drains are below the freeze plugs. Oil galleries are just above the pan rail or right around the filter housing.
