has anyone ever heard of electric superchargers? i ran accross this site, http://www.electricsupercharger.net and everything looks OK and i want to try it but i'm really really skeptical. does anyone have any experience with this stuff?

i emailed them and got this email back:

They're bogus. Do a search and you'll see a bunch of reasons why.

 

It cant supply enough air (read: chokes out) a 1.6 liter honda, let alone 5.7. Worthless.

 

600 watts... yea... thats gonna yield a TON of HP!

You'll probably get a hair dryer without a heating element and a fake ECU.

Even if that thing worked, it would be hell on your alternator.

Probably as effective as hooking up a leaf blower to your intake...but atleast you can return the leaf blower to Sears once you see that it doesn't work.

 

This thing only adds power to the Geo Metros that want to run like the cars on the movie "The Fast and the Furious". Can't believe that somebody actually busy this stuff.

AKA load of bull, i'm sorry but steam into the engine doesnt sound right, and look at the design! Its a mason jar!! the best though is in the picture for the "install where it just says "ADD GLUE!!!"

I had to read through that again. They guarantee 30% gain but your gains will depend on your existing engine conditions.

My guess is when you complain about not getting any gain, they'll say it's a problem with your engine conditions.

Also since it's electric, it's probably running at a constant speed. Your engine doesn't run at a constant speed. The faster the engine spins, the more air it needs. At 5000 rpm a 350 SBC will need a lot more air than the 1100cfm at 8 psi this thing says it can produce.

12 volt power (engine running normally produces 13.8 volts) and a motor that consumes 50 amps produces 600 watts. Simple ohms law math. 1 HP is a little over 700 watts. That means this thing uses roughly a 1 HP motor. Ever seen the size of a 1 HP AC motor? Want to know the size of a 1 HP DC motor?

The Youtube videos in the forum are funny. Everyone shows it producing 6 pounds of boost with the engine off

 

I do have a question on these electric disasters ..... Now I realize most of your turbos can spin at roughly 50K-75Krpm (of course under full boost) maybe even potentially more. How does a 25K rpm turbine make 8lbs of boost? I wouldn't think at 25K if it can even do that that it could supply enough air for much more then 2,000rpm ..... I doubt my draw through makes more then 8lbs of boost.

 

It can't. Simple as that. This is a scam. Snake oil. Fraud. Etc. If you look on their forums, and do a little investigation, you will note that MANY replies have been deleted. Nothing goes beyond one page, even though it shows 2, or more. If you check some of the user profiles, and look for their posts, you will find that ANY negative comment, while showing in the list of user posts, DO NOT exist in the thread they are referring to. In fact, even some of the threads don't exist any more. I am guessing that the folks praising this system, and claiming great power gains, easy installs, etc, are part of the scam, as one user kept claiming that he paid for one, and never got it. (and he was not the only one.....)

Also, they claim that it can be installed in less than an hour, and the computer will "automatically" compensate for the increased air flow. Really? So, my one bar MAP suddenly becomes a two, or three bar MAP?? Interesting. In some cases, they talk about replacing the "chip" in the computer. That should be a hoot. How many folks do you know that can solder on a printed circuit board, without smoking the surrounding components? Including the chip you are attempting to solder in?

There are so many holes in this thing, it makes swiss cheese look like Neutronium.
