tachometer problem
I just bought an 84 trans am and the tachometer doesn't go past 1000 rpm. Any idea how to fix that? Or should i just replace the entire gauge cluster?

Re: tachometer problem
Does it seem to act normal below 1000 RPM, like at idle, and then go only that far and stop, like it hits something?
If so, it's probably a metal shaving down in the meter movement. Looking at it under a magnifying glass or with a loupe, you can use a sewing needle to get it out. Just be careful not to damage the hairsprings.
Otherwise, probably easiest to just get another cluster.

Re: tachometer problem
I'm unsure about TA's, but in a Camaro you could simply swap out the tach for another (without resorting to removing the cluster at all). Assuming the the tach itself is the problem.
