I got the Code 43

I searched this and found some info and posted in a existing thread but I guess I didn't post it and now the search engine isn't working right for me so I will just repost.

I got the code 43. Electronic Spark Control. Causes:Poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit, defective ESC module, defective knock sensor, defective ECM.

I was reading in the other post that if the SRS light came on when turning the car on it would deal with the ECM, Electricle, or ESC. Also, if car is warm and you throttle hard and it came on it was with the knock sensor and so on.

Well, I had the one where I was driving, nailed the gas, and the light came on while the car felt sluggist. I read that if the knock test fails it will do this because the timing is retarted. Once I turn the car off and back on it is back to normal, light is off and runs good. I had this happen to me like 3 months ago, it would come on somtimes and then not and it was off for 3 months and now jsut came back on.

So, I was wondering, my car was retarted a couple of degrees to pass emissions, could this be a probable cause, and also, what else could I look into? Should I change the knock sensor or sumthing, and also, what exactly caused the knock test to fail, or what exaclty is it?

Thank you

Any ideas?

I also noticed that my car starts to heat up at times fairly quickly when sitting at idle.

Re: I got the Code 43

Sorry for not responding for such a long time. I have to say the problem is fixed but I am not sure what I did. I actually took it to a friend and we went through the car and noticed it had a head a intake leak, we fixed that and messed with the timing as well as replaceing the O2 sensor and I have never recieved that code again. I now have a new code that comes on only sometimes at a stop light, code 44 from reading lean, still trying to figure that out now. Sorry that I have to helpful information.

no problem. actually have a replacement o2 sensor; talked w/ someone who told me my problems might be related to that. will see.

Now to remove the old o2 sensor which appears rusty...
