Camshaft/Computer Problems?
I just bought a cam for my computer controlled 86 5.0 TPI. The specs for it are 212/212 duration at .050, .444.444 lift, and 112 LSA. Ive heard both that this cam will and wont work with the computer. When people say it wont work with the computer wont do they mean it wont work?

Re: Camshaft/Computer Problems?
The computer is expecting idle speed, idle vacuum, idle fuel requirements, and various other things, to move together in a predictable pattern.
A cam that disrupts that pattern, is GUARANTEED to prduce driveability problems.
As duration is increased, also increasing the lobe separation angle, helps smooth out some of these issues.
The cam you have there should be reasonably friendly to the computer in your particular motor. It's probably about as far as you can go and still have any chance you can get away with it, with stock programming. I wouldn't describe it as the "best" choice, but it's "OK" at least. On the other hand, don't be surprised if you end up with tuning issues.
If you haven't already upgraded the exhaust, now would be a GREAT time to do so.
Also, getting rid of the crappy Multec injectors your car came with, and putting in some Bosch ones such as Frod used, will make a MASSIVE improvement. They're SUPER CHEEEP and widely available. Get this type here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...em220200272211 You can clearly see how cheeeep they are.

I do plan on putting headers on the car sometime in the future. What is crappy about the Multec inectors? I have injectors from an 88 TPI motor, would they be good to swap in? And if the cam doesnt work well with my computer what exact problems can I expect?

Get the type I posted. Believe it, it's worth EVERY PENNY of what they cost. And given that you can probably pay for it with nothing but the pennies in your change jar, it's got to be one of the highest bang-for-the-buck improvements you can make.
