Ignition Key question
OK I have a 90 Firebird. I have lost the key and can't get any lock smith to want to come out and fix the dang thing. It is VATS system can I just change out the ingnition cyld or will it have to be the same vats key to work?

Re: Ignition Key question
take your registration card to any gm dealer they can take the vin number and cut a new key for you, later jimmy
Re: Ignition Key question
jimmys right but to answer your question if you replace the cylinder you will have to still know what rististor was on the key there are 9 different ones i believe then you would have to cut a new key with the right resistor value in order for it to work. i use to make these keys at a hardware store where i use to work it will problity coust you about 20 bucks at a hardware store i don't know what the dealer will charge, maby nothing if you catch them on a good day
Re: Ignition Key question
Already done that. They told me it would tell them how to cut the key but not which vats key it needed. They made me a set of keys with out the chip in it and they open the doors and turn the ignition but without the vats key it wont start.
