question about setting the base idle

my question is when you set the base idle should you unpluge the timing advance connector on the 350 without an hei dizzy the reason i ask is that ive recently learned how to set the base timming the only problem when i unhook the connector the car cuts off sometime it will lope a couple of times then die but i can keep it running if i throttle it up, i set the idle by way of the producedure i got of the forum but i left the timming connector hooked up, it would make sense to un hook it any help would be great help thanks
p.s. thanks to all who helped me with my last thread both are kinda related but i figured it would keep things simple to post two different ones rather than editing the other one

You should set the idle with everything connected, air cleaner installed if possible, warmed up to operating temperature, in drive if automatic (set the parking brake AND block the tires first).
