Belt tension bolt

I have an 89 camaro with a 305 and I was changing the belt and the bolt head snapped off of the bolt tensioner thing so now the rest of the bolt is stuck and The tensioner can almost slide off does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or how to get the bolt out? thanx

Re: Belt tension bolt

pull whatever the bolt is in off then use vice grips and remove or drill a small hole in the bolt and use a device called an easy out is is a cone shaped thing with reverse threads on the outside of it so when you go lefty loosy into the hole you put in the bolt it grabs and loosens the bolt, at least that is what they are suppose to do usually isn't that easy.make sure you don't damage the threads when you are drilling the bolt.

and if you have to go buy one, go to parts store not walmart. You will get what you pay for.

Re: Belt tension bolt

If this is the bolt that holds the pulley on, the best thing to do might be to just replace the whole tensioner assembly. Not too expensive; maybe $50 or so.

Re: Belt tension bolt

i would start spraying the threads with pb blaster or another penetrating lubricant. then go with the easy out.
