Plan for this summer
This is one of those questions for something that may or may not happen in the next few months. But I'm selling my old Talon for $500 and have a few interested buyers so I expect this to happen by June. I'm trying to decide what to do with the cash. Plan #1 Hooker long tubes and I know a guy that will make a custom Y off-road pipe to my 3" Edelbrock cat-back and put a "sticker" on it. Secondary question for this is, can I get the long tubes without AIR pipes? Plan #2 is to have a Detroit locker and 3.73s installed (granted I'll have to cough up a few extra bucks). My car is a '86 Z28 LB9/700R4 with 2.73s. Also my cat may be clogged, not sure. What would y'all do? I can't decide. I'm not sure but assumming plan #2 can be done for around $800. Is plan #2 a bit of a stretch for the $ I think it will cost? Or would it be worth it to do it FIRST, or do the exhaust first?

Do the headers first. It will nicely wake up your motor. Save your pennies for the gears. actually, it may be cheaper to find a rear that already has the ratio you want, and swap the entire rear..... it would also be a golden opportunity to pick up disk rears, if you don't have them already.

Re: Plan for this summer
depends on what you want... sound or seat of the pants launch feel. I got shorty headers for mine because i didnt want 2 lose ground clearance and it was cheaper, made it sound a ton better. later on i swapped my 2.73's for 3.42's nd govloc posi. the gears made it much more fun and would be my suggestion. if you dont mind settleing a little maybe search ebay for the posi and you could come out in that $500 range if you get a good price on having it installed. as for the cat put in a straight pipe if your not worried about emissions. i did and im sure it freed it up significantly and the exhaust stopped smelling like sulfer. all in all my money would be for the gears.

Re: Plan for this summer
exhaust makes a huge difference and a posi doesn't matter on the highway i would say exhaust then gears later

Re: Plan for this summer
cant argue cause that is the order i did it in, just sayin the gears woke it up much more than the exhaust. but exhaust then gears is probably best. as for the air tubes stuff i dont think its different for tpi from tbi but with mine i got rid of all that air crap nd took off the smog pump. nd theres lots of info on here about that too.

Yeah I'm leaning towards doing the exhaust. And if the cat is bad I probably won't get the full benefit of the gears until its taken care of.
