400+ hp block...need block/crank/rod suggestions...
This is basically the bottom half of the engine...to this thread

I need to beat about a 12.5 sec quarter mile, in a 350 700r4 powered 3rd gen. I need to know what kind of block i will need to support this kind of power/abuse. Preferrably built for a smaller vortech TPI kit in the future too. Im basically looking at using a 2 bolt block that i have. Its never been bored or honed, but it will be if i use it. Will i need to get a 4 bolt block or have this one machined for splayed 4 bolt caps for this kind of duty? I also need to know what compression ratio will get me there. Will 9:1 get me there? Its ok if it falls short on power in NA, because i want to keep the compression around that for future boost. The big question: Will a stock crank work or will i need an expensive forged version? And also on rods? I have forged aluminum 9:1 pistons already so if i could keep those that would help me out. And also would i really need the aluminum heads, would the cast iron keep the headgasket in place better and take boost better? Or is the AL better all around? Thanks for any help!

For only 400 HP, a stock block and crank would be fine.

well also will i be able to pull mid 12s with 400hp? I would think id need more. What exactly are the stock 350 2 bolt bottom end good untill? what will fail first? my guess is the pistons and/or valve train would need some upgrades. then rods and bolts after that. Also would it be a good idea to get everything balanced and weight matched? or is that unneccesary for my application?
