bouncy speedo
exactly as the thread says, when going under 35 mph, my speedo kinda bounces up and down real quick, but starts to fade when going over 35, and eventually totally goes away. anybody know whats causing this?

Re: bouncy speedo
I'm guessing you have an 82-85 car, which has a cable-driven speedo. If that's the case, you just need to run some WD-40 down the speedo cable, it's a common issue with all cable-driven speedo's.

astroglyph21,
adding car details (year, make, model, engine, etc.) to your profile makes answering your questions easier. Depending on year and make, you will either have a cable-driven speedo (82-89 in Camaros) or an electronic (90-92 in Camaros). Or you may have a Firebird which was equipped with the electronic speedo earlier.

Re: bouncy speedo
Well, in that case it's still a cable driven speedo. Firebirds got the electronic speedo in 86, camaros in 90 or 91, whenever they changed to the new dash.
edit: firebirds were '87, my bad.

Re: bouncy speedo
jack the car up PUT jack stands under it (SAFETY FIRST) unhook the speedometer housing and pull the cable out.take some wheel bearing grease and put it in the palm of your hand or on a rag and pull the cable through the grease coating it good. now put the cable back in the housing, when it gets to the end turn the cable until it goes back into the speedometer, hook it back problem solved, later jimmy

Re: bouncy speedo
You'll need to pull the dash and disconnect the cable from the back of the speedometer before you can pull it out. I've not done it myself, infact it's something I really need to do, however a search on this should yield great results and everyone says it's a pretty easy fix once you get into it.

Re: bouncy speedo
With the cluster removed, pull the cable from its housing. Unscrew the housing from the tranny and shoot brake clean or some other cleaner down the housing until the fluid is clear. Brake clean will dry rapidly. Button up at the tranny. Clean the cable itself with brake clean, then put a glob of Napa's Sil-Glyde (a speedo lube) in your palm and run the cable through it as you thread the cable back into the housing. You'll probably have to manipulate the cable a bit to reseat it in the speedo sleeve at the tranny end.
