ticking noise

when i turn the key on in my 86 iroc z28(not start) i hear this whirring clicking pulling noise in the paassenger side area of the engine closest to the windshield. I think it has to do with some kind of cooling part. When i turn the ac on it just gets worse. Anyone know what this could be. Ps the tempeture control lever doesnt move it is stuck for some reason anyone know a fix?

Re: ticking noise

would that be pretty pricy to replace and tedious or would it be a cheap easy fix? could i just take the blower motor out and still have heat?

Why replace it? It doesn't sound like it's doing anything wrong.

My car made that same noise and it turned out the blower motor was going bad, replaced it and the noise went away.
Also does it make the sound when its running with out the ac/heat on?

I paid I think around $40 but I got the more expensive one cheap one was about $30, so its not to expensive. And no you have to have a blower motor to blow heat.
Its an easy fix I did it in 20 mins, all you have to do is take off 8 bolts, the ground wire and some other wire, and a little rubber tube, you pull it out and there should be a fan like thing on the end of it swap that over to the new blower motor and put it in.

Re: ticking noise

blower motors are dirt cheap about 20 bucks

a good used one would be fine they rarely fail

almost any car or trucks one from the 70s on up is the same

caddy , olds, pontiac, chevy, buick, gmc, etc

it could evne be sticks in the blower fan blades, remove the blower and clean the box out

i always pull good working ones from carsi junk and trucks too, all the same virtually

a/c ones anyways

in which have a wider fan blade set than a/c delete vehicles

in which are only about 2" or 2.5" wide blade set

good luck

Definitely is your blower motor, Before you buy a new one take a hammer and tap the motor you could just have dirt in it.

Re: ticking noise

i took the blower motor out was a real b with the fender walls blocking me from getting the 2 screws at the bottom. since my car is ac right i would need a blower motor with the ac option correct?
can someone maybe point me to a site such as advanceauto and the correct part number or the blower motor for me i was looking and i wasnt sure one what i needed. do i need the blower motor itself or that and the white airfilter looking thing that goes around it.

I know what you mean that was the hardest part. Yes you would need one with the ac option.

You don't need the wheel unless yours is broken, so if its not get the one without the wheel and put your old one on it, its just 1 bolt holding it on.
