heads and cam

im trying to figure out what heads and cam to use for my 350. i thought i should start out by learning what the measurements for heads and a cam mean. for a cam, what do the duration and lift measurements mean? for heads, what do the chamber and intake runner measurements mean? im looking for around 350-375 hp. right now i believe it has about 310-320 hp... i ran a 14.2 at the strip, and that was when it had a knock. any comments are appriciated!

Try reading the article"opinion, what everyone should know",in the tech articles section off the home page.It helped me alot and I still refer to it at times. If your car is stock or near it doesnt have anywhere near 310 0r 320 hp.You should have run a better time if it did.If you look on the tech board you will see the highest the 350 tpi did stock was about 245 hp.The 87 version was 225 hp.

Re: heads and cam

A cam vocab list is in the link in my sig, read that for some wording.

You can accomplish your goals with some head porting, a cam and an intake manifold. (and exhaust of course).

Re: heads and cam

thanks for the help

[QUOTE=Shadygrady;3648876]If your car is stock or near it doesnt have anywhere near 310 0r 320 hp.QUOTE]

it was actually bored .30 over, has 10:1 compression, a little bigger cam than stock (.214/.224 duration, .443/.465 lift), hyper tech stage two chip/170 deg thermostat, edelbrock shorties, and 3" flowmasters. i've heard different opinions on how much hp it has, and ive heard i should be running faster than 14.2, but again, it wasnt running the best with the knock it had.

Re: heads and cam

With stock heads and a cam with less lift than I`m running I`m still pretty sure your off a good bit.I`m not putting down that much power and I`ve got everything you`ve got and more, besides the .30 over,Running as good and/or faster times. Not trying to argue with you,it just takes a pretty good combo to make that much power. The tourque of the tpi can be deceiving too.You sound like you`re going about the same route as I am.Good luck man
