Does anybody know if an 86 305 TPI motor uses a cam retainer plate or not?

Re: Cam Retainer Plate
No. Should have been a flat-tappet cam, not roller.

Get the block casting # to be sure. At least, you can tell FOR SURE if it's NOT a roller block; although, if it IS a roller block, then you have toknow whether it has a roller cam in it or not.

Re: Cam Retainer Plate
It is not a roller block. It had a flat tappet cam in it. I was just wondering because after I put a cam in it I didnt remember putting a plate back in.

Re: Cam Retainer Plate
Flat-tappet cam sprockets don't need a retainer plate in ANY block, only the factory roller sprockets do; so if it has a flat-tappet cam in it now, then it certainly doesn't need the plate.
