My Baby Died :( HELP!
My Baby Died :( HELP!
So my camaro pretty much died
. Pretty sure its a clutch/tranny problem. 91 RS 5sp, it starts up okay and I will drive it around fine for awhile, then it will just die. Usually happens at a stop/start I will shift it into gear and it will raise RPM but no go, and it starts to stink up pretty bad. About 100,000 miles Im the third owner and I know the second owner never changed the clutch and he had it from 80,000 and on.
The only thing that worries me is that it never started to really slip, it just completely died. Chevrolet wants 105 just for a diagnostic and local car shop wants 719 for new clutch kit (Pressure plate, clutch, alignment tool, and bearings) and resurface flywheel.
Does this sound like a clutch problem for sure? Is there any way to know for sure? Does the flywheel need to be resurfaced? Hows the price? I know I need to shop around a little more to see what the best I can get.
Thanks in advance guys!

$105 is Chevrolet's way of telling you to take your old ancient thing they haven't seen one of for the last 15 years, somewhere else.
Changing the clutch is fairly easy. Something every stick shift owner should do, if for no other reason than to reinforce how important being nice tothe clutch is. You should do it. It's not "hard", mostly just a bunch of laying up under the car getting dirty.
Resurfacing the flywheel is MANDATORY if the clutch has been slipping, as in your case. Usually costs around $50 or so. No biggie. Don't skip it.
You should be able to do it for well under $350, and have a REALLY PREMIUM acting clutch in your car.
Don't just go with the cheeepest thing you can find that says "clutch" on the box. Go with one of the good brands, not some generic POS thing you pick up from the lowest bidder.
