so why would....

my car deisel when i turn the key off. i just reinstalled my intake manifold and now my engine deisels really bad after shutting it off. once in a while it will shut off fine but thats rare. i did install a hei dist thats vac advance along with the intake might that have something to do with it?

what is your timing at?

it's either retarded timing or too high an idle speed.

it idles at just about 700 in gear 1000 in park or neutral. and just to make sure turnin the dist clockwise is retarding and counterclockwise is advancing right?

You will need a timing light to get it right.

definitely use a timing light to set the timing, not by ear or any other means.

so i adjusted my timing got rid of the spark knock and got the engine running smoother but the deiseling was still there. so i took a look at my idle again noticed it had gone up to a bit over 1500 in park or neutral and was around 1000 in gear. i turned it down way down. it idles at about 700 in p/n and just above 5 in gear now. runs like a dream and stops without problem when i cut it off. looks like it was both timing and to high an idle
