Help! Car not starting.

so i looked aroudn the forum, and couldn't really find a situation exactly like mine. It's the first time the weather has been this cold since i began driving my 305 TPI IROC. This morning when i went outside to go to school, it was aroudn 30 degrees, and the car wouldn't start. No sound at all, my heat gauge jumps, and my lights and everything work, but thats it. My dad tapped the begative jumper cable to what he said was the starter solenoid, just below the coolant tank. It was a little cylinder with wires running from the battery to the cylinder, adn then underneath the car. It turned, i turned the key, the car started. So i let it run for awhile, and hitched a ride with my g/f. I come back, the temp is now around 56-60 degrees, and the car starts up beautifully. Now, its around 43 degrees, and the came thing is happening, the only noise i get when i turn the key is the faintest buzzing noise, the starting lights come on, and the temperature gauge jumps. I get lights, radio, etc etc. Now, i just got it back from the mechanic, and can't afford to put it back in a shop, The mech. put in a new starter, and new sparkplugs, and adjusted my idle, which is the only thing i could think of that would affect the car in this way. Imma take it back to him tommorrow, and see if it's something he did, inthe mean time, if anyone has any suggestions as to what may be wrong, please, please let me know what yout think!

Re: Help! Car not starting.

Hi, it seems I have about the same issue as you did on your car. Mine does exactly the same thing, except I can actually get it started if I 'Fonzie' it (bang on the dash while holding the key in the start position will engage the starter somehow). I also know it's not the vats OR my ignition switch since I have an autostart (previous owner) installed and the same symptoms, and banging on the dash soution, convince me it must be a loose wire somewhere. Can you please reveal what the issue was on your car so I can check and see if that's what's up with mine? Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!
