I have a 1984 Firebird it has a 400 with a holley carb,holley air filter, edelbrock block i guess, full flowmaster exhaust etc...
the problems:
-the sealing on the doors/windows needs redone
-i was racing a friend and all of a sudden i think it was oil(didnt smell like waffles so it wasnt antifreeze, wasnt red and i still ahve full trannly fluid so it wasnt that started blasting out of the passenger side near the headlight, i had to have it towed, i put oil in and it worked however i hear a loud clicking sound that sounds like its coming from the carburetor or maybe the block its self either way it has me really worried...
-after the oil incident the car overrevs and i dont think it shifts at about 30mph the acceleration practically redlines and i can hear the engine groaning around what it used to groan at going at about 130mph...
what im asking is what could possibly be wrong, how much will it cost to fix, and im dewbating on dropping in a brand new engine and i want advice on what to drop in.
things recently replaced:
-New Radiator stock performance level set for a camaro(same as firebird)
-New alternator, a simple Napa one
-new battery
I have a $10,000 limit, i also have no interest in selling the car i know its foolish not to just grab another one off craigslist, but this specific car has grown on me
Extras not needed but parts i wont mind getting fixed/added and looking for estimates:
-full reupholster currently cloth want black leather
-full repaint, currently is black with white racing stripes, paints in good condition but i want this thing mint at some point
-an rpm guage...ya mine doesent have one, its an auto transmission and im used to driving manual so i can tell by the soudns when something is going loopy
-a manual tranny conversion kit
-hydraulics for the trunk, there old and dead
-passenger side lock looks liek someone bashed it with a hammer(its dented in and obviously doesent work lol)
-new spark plugs and ignition, it starts, but i usually have to press on the pedal and let it turn over a few too many times and when i try and urn the key fast it makes a LOUD almost screching noise which i might add for comical value makes eveyr person within a 1 block radius jump a good foot in the air

also the most i do is radiators and simple things, so the pricing here id like would be a price a mechanic would do....because i have no idea what im doing, at the level of engine swaps =/
