oil flush?

when you ask for an oil flush

are you just making sure you get 100% fresh oil in the engine or is there actually a cleaning process that gets rid of some the oil deposit gunk sludge build up?

Re: oil flush?

not sure what you'r asking . i do all my own oil changes . i almost always put in a qt. of eng. flush prior to change . let it idle for 5-10 mins. , then drain . i think (IMO) it does help with sludge removal/cleanup . i have no idea what jiffy lube or other places do . good luck .

Re: oil flush?

what jiffy lube or other places do
They mostly flush out your wallet.

Put a quart of ATF in your oil, drive the car for 1000 miles or so (or until the oil gets SO nasty you HAVE TO do something), and change it. Might even take a couple of instances of that, if it's REALLY bad.

Think about it.... flush. OK, how much schmutz is in your motor, that needs to come out, anyway? What IS there that can dissolve THAT MUCH, THAT FAST, and actually get it out of the motor? Even if you soak parts in strong solvent, how long does it take for them to come clean? How is something you just dump in there going to do any better than that? It's not easy.

About the only thing I can think of that could possibly come close, is diesel fuel. You could try a quart of that in the crankcase, run it for a while, and change the oil. I don't know how well it would work, but it sure cleans parts good. Again, might take a few reps to really get it all clean.

Re: oil flush?

Not really an easier way....

It's not too much different from all these "engine renew" type things you see advertised. You can be fairly sure, that if you could open a bottle and pour something in and it would fix a lifetime of inadequate maintenance or just plain old age in an instant, word would probably get around QUICK. Hasn't happened yet, that I've noticed.

Some things just take time. That's one of them. Not much work, fortunately; just, time.

Re: oil flush?

IDK if I would put diesel fuel in my oil. That is really, well, thin... Also a "solvent" of types. People use kerosene to clean grease out of wheel bearings and stuff. IDK, it just seems like if you were that desperate, why not spray a can of brakleen down the crankcase? Yeah it cleans good, but it kinda de-slipperys the oil too.

I tried ATF once, with OK results. Oil came out a little blacker than usual, but it was a little more foamy and airated too which is bad.

Seafoam is supposed to work real nice, but again, I wouldnt leave it in there for more than a few hundred miles at most. Its strong stuff, and watery too.

As of now, I have switched to Conventional 15w40 Rotella. Its cheap, its thick, and it is supposed to be an awesome oil. It seems real good so far, my oil psi is up, and oil consumption is down. I will see if it comes out black and runny with foam in about 1500 miles. Hopefully not. But diesel oil is supposed to be better for anti-wear, and for detergents to keep the motor clean.

Oh, just FYI, I change oil and Delco filter every 2,000 to 2,500 miles. So full synthetic is impractical for me.
