Need New Intake Manifold
Ok, So I built a 388c.i.d SBC. I put on new Edlebrock Victor Jr. 210cc intake heads. The heads were port matched to a felpro 1206 gasket. The intake ports are VERY large.
I went to install 2 manifolds I had laying around and neither of them fit. The only one that came close was the Performer RPM. So I installed that with a 1205 gasket but this auctually created a vacuum leak. So I put some silicone around the where it was leaking and broke the engine in.
Well now It is time for me to decide on a new intake manifold. My camshaft is a Comp Cams NX284 Nitrous cam. .507/.525 lift. I am using a 750CFM Speed Demon Carb. The valves on the heads are 2.08/1.6 these heads are very high flowing heads. I was told that they might even be too big for my lil 388... So I dont want to spend $500+ on a Super Victor CNC intake but I need something that will work. Any suggestions? I want to make power between 2500-6500RPM. Remember that the gasket is a felpro 1206 (its auctually very close to a felpro 1207 but I will settle for a 1206 port size.)
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: Need New Intake Manifold
Have you asked Edelbrock for a recommendation? I'd think with a setup like that, you could easily ditch the dual plane manifolds and go with a good single plane, like the Vic Jr or some of the Weiand offerings.

Re: Need New Intake Manifold
My intake ports are matched to a 1206 or 1207 and the 1207 measures 1.38"x2.28" and the 1206 measures 1.34"x2.21" whereas the 1205 measures 1.28"x2.09"
That is a .2" difference in height and it is noticable. Many intakes just dont sit on my heads without the ports showing.
I am curious as to what people with unported Victor Jr. Heads are using for an intake.

Re: Need New Intake Manifold
The Vic Jr. intake will work fine. You can buy a version of the Vic Jr. that is already CNC port matched to a #1206 gasket opening (Edelbrock part number #2900). That means..... you can also take a run-of-the-mill non-port-matched Vic Jr. from a swap meet (the very common #2975) and hog it out yourself to a 1206 gasket size with no problem.
There's no real problem if the manifold opening is slightly smaller than the port opening on the head. Other way around is not advised, however.

Re: Need New Intake Manifold
Oops.... my bad. I went and read further. The CNC Vic Jr. is ported out to a 1205 gasket opening but they recommend using a 1206 gasket (I guess so the gasket doesn't have any chance of overhanging the intake manifold opening).
The Weiand Team G intakes are slightly bigger than that at 2.10x1.24 out of the box. You can take them further but I doubt you'll get up in the 2.30" height dimension with them before you encounter some sort of trouble/compromises.
Looks like a Super Vic for you!
