what kind of numbers? honest numbers IE
hello guys, Im new here. I joined so I could see the image on the 305 porting thread of how the guy made the regulator for his electric die grinder. it came in very handy.
btw, I used to want a thirdgen BAAD. matter of fact, I think I used to be a member here like 6 years ago.
anyhow, I have a question for you all and I want an HONEST, realistic estimate on a build Im doing
454 bored 60 over
comp cams 11-677-4 236/242 at 0.050, .568/.578 lift ,solid flat tappet
bbc closed chamber heads compression about 10.5-10.6 :1
it will have a holley 770 avenger carb and 1 3/4 headers with 2.5 inch collector.
Im doing a bowl blend and pocket port on the heads and smoothing out the runners a bit.
what kind of numbers should I expect. do you think this will make 450hp???
I looked at the flow numbers on my heads (290s) and they flow like crap, but I dont have any numbers after a port job.
thanks all.

Headers with a 2" primary and 3" or 3.5" collector would be a big help on that engine. Otherwise, I don't think 450hp is unreaslistic with that cam and compression.

Right; those aren't the best heads in the world. Not the worst either, but hardly the best.
Are you sure of the CR? What's the deck clearance?
What valves are in them? Has the chamber been unshrouded around them, if they're larger than the OE 2.06"/1.72"?

stock 2.06 1.72 valves. I came very close to doing the bigger valves for about $400, especially after the article in the last engine masters where the flow jumped up way high with a bigger valve install/bowl blend.
but, the stupid rent got in the way so Im just gonna stick with the pocket port for now.
this is how the compression calculates

Nice calculator.
But like any calculator, the answers it gives, is only as good as the numbers that get put in.
What's the deck clearance? Measured, not "estimated"? Stock is about .025"; "rebuilder" pistons, which would include virtually ALL cast, most hypereutectic, and alot of forged ones specifically such as TRW/SpeedPro, add .020" to the stock clearance.
IMO the headers will be OK as is; you could try the other reducers, for tuning, but if the collector is 3", then the adapter doesn't matter as much, and it matters even less if the exhaust behind it is 2½".
The small valves will be a real handicap.
That's a familiar old cam; one of those "old standby" types. Alot of people have run that one over the years.

I think I will go with the 3 inch collectors into three inch pipes all the way around, since I will be running a 150 shot. for now though I will try to stick with the 2.5 pipes on there since , well, they are already on there and dont dig into rent money. lol.
I was reading though and I think the 1 3/4 into 3 inch collectors and pipes would be ideal.
edit: btw, I love your quote. Occam's razor - "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best

Right: "Occam" = William of Ockham
The version of the quote that I use, is what he actually wrote in his commentary on Peter Lombard's "Sentences"; but there are many other "paraphrases" of it running around besides his actual words, including that popular one. Translated literally, as you will no doubt recall from your grade-school Latin, it means "Plurality should never be multiplied without need".
But anyway, if you're sure of the deck clearance and the other inputs to the CR, then it should be OK; I'd expect to see low 500s of HP out of that, and high 500s of torque, at the flywheel.

low 500s would be amazing. Im looking at a BEST case scenario in dyno2k, and its coming up with 491hp and 560 torque(506hp and 546 torque if I retard the cam -6). IF I actually achieve this, it would be a dream and nothing I ever expected. I started this build looking for 400 hp and about 500 torque. I would be extremely happy with 468 hp (1hp per CID) and 530 ft lbs of torque. should be a fun street ride
