Should I buy K.I.T.T. ?
I have an old friend who is in some money trouble and is selling a knight rider replica car he purchased from a museum. It is supposedly a 1984 trans am. The exterior is almost perfect. It has one small ding on each side. The interior was decked out like the show, but those pieces have fallen apart and he has put the stock interior back in. Everything inside is as new except for the driver's seat.
The motor is destroyed, likely a shattered piston/valves... the motor is known to be dead, and the trans is likely toasted as well.. 2004r tranny and lg4 engine... I plan to replace both of these if i buy it..
How much should I offer for this? I am assuming everything mechanical will need to be replaced. I plan on leaving the cosmetics alone since they are so good, but want to make it a nice cruiser/weekend track car...
Thanks!

I would'nt think it would be worth much more then any other '84 T/A with a blown drivetrain. Who cares if it came from a museum. Bottom line its an '84 T/A with no drivetrain and a strobe light. I look up KBB on it and offer him what they suggest for one in "fair" codition.

I just saw your avatar... should i take that into consideration??
KBB only goes back to 89' .. he was asking 2500, but i think he will offer me less than 2k...

I only gave 2500 for a running/driving (albeit poorly) 88 GTA. I'd think something more like $1500, assuming the body/interior is in as good of shape as you describe.

See the above about "memory".

I think Ward is actually being a bit generous.... sounds to me like about a $800-1000 car, if the interior is in fact "new" and is something good, and not a low-bid hack job of some sort. Less than a $500 car if the interior is anything less than excellent.

Re: Should I buy K.I.T.T. ?
K.I.T.T. replica or not, the fact remains that it is an '84 T/A roller with a body kit. I'm asking $1300.00 for my '86 T/A and that's including an L69 air cleaner and a set of black GTA wheels. The car by itself, I'm asking for $900.00, and all mine needs is a windshield, tires, and paint. And my car is turn key. If the car was running, mabye $1500, but it isn't running and it isn't a true KITT replica anymore without the proper interior. I'd offer your friend $500.00 for a car that you gotta go get, pay to have it towed, and find a place for it to sit until you can put a motor and tranny in it. I'm not trying to be an a**hole, but there too many members on this site alone that have cars that are in good condition for sale THAT RUN!!!for $1500-2500.00.

Re: Should I buy K.I.T.T. ?
I paid $400.00 for an 87 Firebird with an lg4 / 700r4 and got a 355tpi and T5 with it the body and interior were crap and nothing worked but it had a new water pump, alternator, starter, radiator, carburetor, Intake, and all the brakes and brake lines were new except the master cylinder and brake booster. Considering the one in question was in a temperature controlled museum for who knows how long is important that means you don't have to deal with rust! I would give him $1000 I just found an 86 tpi with wiring harness and computer, 700r4 and t5 all for $400 total (maybe 400 is my lucky number).

Re: Should I buy K.I.T.T. ?
I just figured the number would be higher than you guys are saying since the appearance of the car is so good. KITT doesnt matter to me, it just means it has a cool looking nose on the car.. that is the only change to stock appearance. So I should be looking at closer to 1g for a rust free car with 2 tiny dings and an interior (all original stock pieces, just extremely well cared for, and extremely low miles) that is as new?
I happen to have a nice 355/700r4 combo sitting in my garage waiting to go in...
thanks

I can't see the car?I'd pay ALOT less for one that had that fugly nose stuck on it, that I'd just have to find the right thing to put back in its place, than I would for an unmolested and intact one.
As far as all that talk about the interior and body condition and "climate controlled" and all that, I'd just have to see pics to even guess reasonably about that.
If it's a STOCK interior in good shape, and all that's wrong with the body is it needs a nose, then maybe it's worth as much as $1000. That'd be a stretch but I suppose it's possible. Although, I don't know how hard it is to find the right nose to repair that isue, so that might not be accurate at all. Somebody that's recently been restoring on one of that kind of car in that particular year range could speak to that, better than I could.
